Another firefighting drama is being planned by ITV - less than a year after the dropping of London's Burning.
Steel River Blue, described as "gritty but also humourous," will be set in Middlesbrough and will focus on the heroics of a young Blue Watch Team.
Producer Ken Horn said: "The firefighters will find themselves in situations that we're going to make as realistic as possible." ITV!, which has suffered a spate of flops, hopes it will become a long-running series.
ITV1's Steel River Blue will be about a team of Middlesbrough firefighters.
"Using the lives of a team of young firefighters give us a broad basis to tell stories about many aspects of the region, particularly the dangers of living so close to industrial plants," said Executive Producer Keith Richardson.
Producer Ken Horn added: "Casting is well underway with a mixture of new and experienced talant to bring the project alive."
New firefighter drama Steel River Blue will begin filming in early 2004 and is likely to be ready for the autumn.
Cleveland Fire Brigade will work as consultants and the cast are to undergo intensive training.
ITV1 will be hoping for a long-running hit show as London's Burning, axed earlier this year after a 15-year run.
The network has suffered a spate of flops recently including Family, Sweet Medicine, Single and Fourty.
