Part 1

The watch sat down to eat the cottage pie that Maggie had spent the last hour making for them.

"You spoken to Elaine yet?" Recall asks Adam quietly.

"Yeah, not that its any of your business."

"Good, she was worried sick, 'cos she thought you were never gonna speak to her again."

"She should have thought about that before she gave me up!" Adam hissed back at Recall, he wished Recall
would butt out.

The bells sounded and the watch got up and left another half eaten meal.

"Sorry Mags, it was really nice, but duty calls," Adam grins at Maggie as he shovels his last hurried mouth full of the meal in to his mouth.

"I'm glad someone appreciates it," Maggie takes Adams plate away, "I'll get indigestion."

"Fire at the old Forbes Manor, South Street, persons
trapped," shouts Recall.

The Watch pile into the appliances and speed out of the station.

The manor was completely derelict, set in an overgrown garden. Flames where coming out of some of the top floor windows.

Pearce began barking orders at everyone. "Adam, Stuart, Rob, Sally get into BA, Adam and Recall take the top floor, Sally and Rob take the bottom floor."

Adam and Recall entered the building from a door at the back. Inside there was a large entrance hall with what looked like half of the ceiling on the floor. A large staircase went up one side of the hall leading to a balcony at the top.

Adam approached the staircase followed by Recall. "Looks a bit dodgy," comments Recall but Adam was already half way up the rotten staircase so Recall followed.

They cautiously entered the first room they came to. It was filled with smoke, and flames were licking the bottom of another entrance to the room.

"Recall, I think I can see someone over there," Adam ventured further into the room to find two casualties slouched against the wall.

"Shit, Adam, look," Recall had spotted three gas cylinders piled against the opposite wall. "Looks like they've been living in here, we better hurry up before those cylinders blow."

They each picked up one of the people and Adam reported that they had found the casualties.

Recall reached the door first. "Shit," Adam cursed as his foot went through one of the
rotten floorboards.
"You alright mate?" Recall calls back to Adam

"No, me foot's stuck," Adam smashes the rest of the board with his other foot and manages to pull his foot out of the floor, nearly loosing his balance in the process.

"Come on then get a move on, those cylinders could blow any minute," Recall tries to hurry Adam up. Adam limped out into the doorway.

"Everything alright in there?" Colemans voice came over their radios as a huge explosion ripped through the top half of the building.

Part 2

The crew outside ducked as glass from the windows rained down on them. Coleman immediately got on to the radio there is no reply from Recall or Adam. He tries Sally and Hyper where he gets a reply confirming that they are fine and will look for Recall and Adam.

Recall is slouched against the wall of the balcony.

Sally and Hyper stumble through in to the hall.

"Adam!" cries Sally as they spot two figures crumbled on the floor. She rushes over to Adam and his casualty who are lying motionless.

"Adam can you hear me?" she gets no response.

"Shit," breaths Hyper.

"Recall!" Hyper shouts as Sally gets on the radio to report to Coleman.

"Rob, I'm up here," shouts back Recall.

"Thank God for that, you alright mate?"

"I think I'll live."

"Adam!, come on mate speak to me," Sally talks to Adam grasping his hand tightly she really didn't want to loose someone else.

A few seconds later two paramedics picked their way across the debris kitted out in helmets and safety gear. Sally and Hyper where moved out of the way to go and help Recall down the now very precarious staircase.

The paramedics got Adam out of the building and into the ambulance, the casualty had been killed from the fall from the balcony.

"Stuart, I want you to go with them in the ambulance," Coleman advised Recall, who agreed and was making his way over to the ambulance when a loud beeping noise came from the ambulance. The whole watch turned round. Adam had arrested and the paramedics where now trying to resuscitate him.

Part 3

"Come on you lot focus on the job," shouted Pearce. He had got the rest of the watch putting out the fire with help from Shadbrook.

Hyper, Sally and Hi-Ho stood staring in disbelief at the ambulance.

"He'll be fine, you know what he's like, he wouldn't give up just like that," Hyper reassured them with more confidence than he actually felt.

As Recall approached the ambulance he was greeted by the steady beeping of a heartbeat.

"Right, come on quick, we better be making a move," One of the paramedics helped Recall in to the ambulance, and then proceeded to stick various tubes into Adam.

After another two hours the watch where making there way to the locker room to clean up in subdued silence.

"Whats with the long faces has somebody died?" Pitbull greeted them. Sally glared at him and the grin disappeared from his face. Hi-Ho explained to him and Maggie what had happened.

After an hour of waiting around and hearing nothing about Adam, Recall demanded some information.

"Are you family?" asked the doctor.

"Ummm... well... yeah I'm his stepdad."

The doctor looked skeptical but proceeded to tell Recall about Adams injuries, "He is currently awaiting surgery, he fell on to his oxygen tank which has caused some damage to the spinal cord and severe internal injuries he has lost a lot of blood, he
should be going for surgery in about an hour."

"He'll be alright though, I mean damage to the spinal cord, he will be able to walk."

"It's really to early to say, but things are looking hopeful at the moment."

"Can I see him?"

"Yes, but only for a few minutes."

Recall was lead into a dimly lit room. He could hardly recognize Adam for the neck brace and all of the tubes.

"Adam, its Recall."

Adam opened one eye to look.

"How you feeling?"

"Shit."

Recall smiled.

"You all right?" asked Adam groggily.

"Yeah not too bad, bit of a bump to the head that I've gotta get checked. I tried phoning Elaine but you know what its like in the pub, you can't hear it, I'll ring the station get one of 'em to go and talk to her."

The doctor walked in to the room followed by a good looking nurse.

"Better go and leave you in the company of these lovely people."

Adam grinned.

At the station the watch sat down to try and finish the meal that they had left earlier when the phone rang. Coleman answered it in his office.

"Hello... I'll talk to Elaine... how is Adam?... Ok...I'll let them know, bye."

Coleman walked into the mess room to let the watch know the latest news about Adam before going over to the
Twist, to let Elaine know what had happened.

Back at the hospital Recall sat down exhausted with a headache coming on from the knock he'd received in the explosion.

"Elaine, I'm afraid I've got some bad news, is there somewhere quieter where we can talk?" Coleman arrived at the bar.

Elaine led him through to the back of the pub.

"There's been an accident," Coleman relayed what he knew about the explosion. "Adam was right in the middle of the explosion, Recall was lucky as he got out quicker than what Adam did."

Coleman drove Elaine to the hospital.

In the A&E waiting room a doctor and several nurses where hunched over a collapsed figure on the floor. After several attempts to revive the figure the Doctor shook his head.

Elaine and Coleman arrived at the hospital where Elaine immediately requested information about Adam and Recall.

"Your son is still in surgery you can see him as soon as he comes out."

"And Stuart," prompted Elaine.

"Maybe you'd like to sit down. I'm afraid he died a short while a go, we did everything we could to revive him but he died of a brain hemorrhage caused by a blow to the head. I really am very sorry"

Elaine slumps down into a seat behind her as the Doctor departs, Coleman tries to comfort her. About an hour later the doctor returns to inform Elaine that she can see Adam now. She wipes the tears from her eyes.

"Ok," She replies to the doctor. She turns to Coleman, "Thanks for everything, could you tell the others what has
happened?"

Coleman agrees, "Well if your sure you'll be alright."

She nods and Coleman departs.
