Nick arrives back at work to be welcomed by Geoff. Geoff asks about the conference and Nick reveals that the watch will be testing new uniforms. Nick goes to his office, where his new computer has been installed. Nick asks Geoff about going through the reports and Geoff tells him that they are on the computer. Geoff starts moaning about Carole again and compares her to Hallam, but stops as Carole arrives in the doorway with Skip and introduces him to Nick.

Later, in the mess Nick reveals to the watch that he has received a letter from Sandra Hallam, which he'll put on the notice board. He then asks Carole for a word in his office. But Jack interrupts, informing Nick that the man has arrived to set up the computers. Carole carried on explaining to Nick about what happened at the shout after Geoff had earlier put her in it.

In the mess, Maggie doesn't like the idea of performing in the prison and refuses. A man on a bike outside shouts up to the watch, who go down to him. He'd een super glued to his bike. The bells go down, calling everyone downstairs. The man is stuck to his seat and to his handle bars. Nick asks that someone calls an ambulance as the seat and handle bars are cut.

PART 2.

Kelly and Beattie finally arrive at the gym after taking 40 minutes to find it because it was so well hidden. Kelly thinks all the equipment is tatty and it looks second hand although Cyril promises it isn't and that none of it is nicked.

At Skip's, Billy reveals to Skip that he thinks that Lauren is on the game and he wants to help her get out of it.

Later on at the station in the mess, Sicknote moans that Billy is taking ages to make the dinner as he sits replying Sandra's letter. The subject of brigade pension's is brought up and they begin questioning Carole on how much Martin gets. Carole is fed up with lying for Martin so she tells them all the truth - that he was knocked down by a van and wasn't on duty. the bells go down and they're called to a person who is in a precarious position, who they need to go to on a silent approach.

The watch arrive on scene to find a girl sitting on a roof and she hasn't been replying anyone who calls out to her. A police officer explains to Nick that the girl's name is Clare and that her mother died recently. The officer then goes down, as she has a fear of heights.

Nick tells Skip to go and talk to the girl and he asks for Jack's fags, before he puts his line on and goes to talk to Clare. Skip cautiously approaches her and comments on how cold it is up there. He takes off his coat and line off, much to Jack's dislike. Skip then kneels near Clare and offers her a fag. He can't light them because it's too windy, so he gives her one, then lights it for her. Skip asks her what's wrong, Clare explains that her dad died, not her mum. Skip's attention is then got and Nick tells him to put his line back on and he does. Skip asks her what she thinks her dad would say to her if he knew she was up there and Clare bursts into tears. Skip then pretends to slip, causing the watch to quickly pull the line and Clare cries into Skip's arms. Then Jack, who had bet with Geoff earlier, that she wouldn't jump, tells him he owes him a tenner. But Geoff states that it isn't a bet unless it's shaken on.

PART 3.

The prison production goes ahead and on the way back, Sicknote discusses with Jean about touring open prison's. Paul then appears from the back, nearly causinf Sicknote to crash the van with shock. Sicknote quickly turns to van to take Paul back to prison, who had planned escaping all along and was planning to meet someone to go to the opera. The van stops at traffic lights, where Paul opens the back and runs off!

When Sicknote and Jean arrive home, Jean tells Sicknote to say nothing to anyone. The police then arrive at theirs and take them to the station in a patrol car. They later leave the station, seeing Paul getting transported back to the prison.

That night, Jack lies awake in the dorm, before getting up and making his way to the mess, where he finds Carole. They sit down and talk as drink tea. They discuss Martin and Jack tells Carole that he thinks she should get out of her marriage. Carole then asks about Jack, why he's been in a weird mood all day. Jack explains that his ex Guv commited suicide the day before and then reveals the events of the shout where the Guv'nor messed up and his best mate died...

Jack has a flashback as he explains what happened to Carole who watches on sympathetically. After leaving the fire once, Jack and Phil didn't have enough air to go back in, but the Station Officer sent them back in with another crew. They ended up being alone, where Jack discovered two bodies. Phil ended up falling and his no air signal began to sound on his BA set. He left Phil to search for a way out, but the exit was chained shut. Jack then used up the last of his air trying to kick the door open. He then tried to find another way out, but they couldn't find the way they came in. They both ended up slumping down and waited. Phil finally ran out of air and Jack shared his with him for a while, until his ran out too. Phil died, then Jack slumped into unconsciousness.

We see Jack and Carole again and tears are welling up in Jack's eyes as he carries on... The owners were fined £1,000 for locking the entrance and when the inquiry came up, Jack revealed the truth of what his Guv'nor did and he got chucked out of the brigade.
