The Blue Watch have a photo taken with A.D.O. Petrie as he prepares to retire. Maggie is in tears and continues to sob as she prepares the Watch's lunch. Bayleaf points out that the A.D.O. is only retiring and they are not buring him yet!

The Watch all put money together to buy Petrie a leaving present and Josie is stuck with the job of going to buy it. Sicknote puts a load of 'No Smoking' posters up in the mess.

Kevin's mum rings the station. His brother, Mickey, has skipped school again.

The Watch are called to a blaze at a hotel, where a fire is started when one of the occupants cooks in her room, even though she is not supposed to. A Watch at Borough Street assist, where the Leading Fireman, nicknamed 'Scouser' is racist towards a young, black fireman. It is revealed that Hallam will be running the Watch while their station officer is away.

Vaseline smokes in the mess, as Sicknote moans about the damages of smoking, as Bayleaf and Hallam smoke in the gents, as Bayleaf discusses that he only ever sees Melanie one weekend each month. As they are talking, Hallam invites Bayleaf over to dinner with him and Sandra.

Dorothy takes part in the 'Grab For Grub' race in a Hypermarket, in a bid to win £100 and the change to win a prize of a lifetime. She doesn't win, but takes home all of the food, which she filled her trolley with. Tony is far from impressed and asks why she couldn't have grabbed some decent food.

Kevin arrives home, to find that Mickey hasn't been home. His mum is worried that he will end up back inside because going to school was a condition of his probation.

Hallam and Bayleaf go to a wine bar, where they find Vaseline moonlighting! Hallam reveals to Bayleaf that Sandra has also invited Clare over. She's a fireman's widow and has two kids. Later, as the four have dinner, it is obvious that Sandra is trying to set Clare and Bayleaf up. She reveals that Clare walked there, because her car is in for her MOT and as Hallam says he'll take her home, Sandra points out that Clare's home is on Bayleaf's way!

Kevin finds Mickey hanging around with his mates. He chases him and has a go at him for skipping school. He then points out that he will make him go to school, even if he has to drag him there himself!

Clare reveals to Bayleaf that her husband wasn't killed on the job, but in a car crash five years ago. Bayleaf suggests they go out for a meal or film sometime and Clare reveals that she is an agency nurse and she promises that she will call him.

The next day, Kevin is late for work and arrives just as role call is finishing. Tate wants an explanation and Kevin lies that his alarm never went off, although he was taking Mickey to school. Tate points out that he doesn't like Kevin's whole attitude and wants it sorted.

The Watch are called to Mickey's school - Edgeton Road, where there is no sign of a fire. Mickey and his friends had phone 999. That evening, Kevin has a go at Mickey, knowing full well that he called 999. Venetia argues with Kevin, sticking up for her little brother.

Bayleaf has Melanie for the weekend, where she tells him that she wants to live with him and not gran anymore. He points out that she can't, which upsets her.

George and Malcolm do some driving for Cyril, where George picks up Julia, who works in a library around the corner from Blackwall. They both like her and George doesn't know what to say to her, so Malcolm talks to her first. George then goes over to Julia and asks her out, only to be turned down.

Charisma informs Donna that his sister and her boyfriend are coming over from Australia soon and there will be no where for them to sleep if she is still there. Donna won't listen and keeps going on about when Charisma will get his compensation money through from te Brigade!

George goes into the library and joins up!

The Watch all moan about the food they are eating, as Vaseline is still moaning at Sicknote about the 'No Smoking' campaign. Bayleaf reveals that they hace months worth of cream and tomato soup left, from when Dorothy did the 'Grab The Grub', so they will have to get used to it!

George continues to stare into space and Tate wants to know what's wrong with him. Malcolm points out that it's a case of Love-at-first-sight-itus!

Bayleaf suggests that George could write Julia a letter, in an attempt to impress her. George doesn't like the idea, as he can't impress himself very well. It is mentioned that Julia likes poetry and writing her a poem is suggested, however George doesn't know any poems, Malcolm does!

Julia reads a poem outloud to a work colleague, who points out that if it was a modern day verse, it would be pornographic!

Marion attempts to discuss baby names with Vaseline, but he points out that it is her baby, so she can call it anything she likes!

The Watch discuss how the poem impressed Julia, as George points out that he didn't understand a word of it! It is then suggested about Sicknote singing! George, then goes outside Julia's flat and Sicknote stands behind a tree singing as George mimes! Bayleaf, Malcolm and Tony are in hysterics as they sit in a car! As the song finishes and George goes to leave, Sicknote stars to sing again and has to be dragged away!

George takes a bundle of philosophy books back to the library. Julia comments on his varied interests, then asks him out for a date that Friday.

A fire errupts yet again in the hostel, but this time it engulfs the majority of the building. As the Watch arrive, some occupants become desperate and jump from windows. Kevin calls up to a woman at a window and he promises her that they'll get to her. As a ladder is sent up, the woman drops her baby, then jumps.

Maddox from Borough Street is just about to enter the blaze, when Tony notices that his DSU is missing off of his BA.
