Ex Grange Hill star on drink-driving charge
LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK) - Former TV star John Alford has been charged with drink-driving and other motoring offences following a crash in which two parked cars were wrecked.
The 33-year-old ex-London's Burning and Grange Hill actor was originally arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and leaving the scene of an an accident.
Witnesses claimed Alford left bare-footed after losing control of a £20,000 Rover estate on a quiet street in Holloway, north London, and ploughing into two parked vehicles - a Golf and Saab - in April this year.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "John Alford, a 33-year-old actor, of Holloway, north London, will appear on bail at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court on July 5 charged with drink-driving.
"He has also been charged today with failing to stop after a damage only collision and driving a motor vehicle when its condition could cause dangers to others, namely a deflated tyre.
"The charges relate to an incident in Hartham Road, Holloway, on April 2 this year."
Alford was sacked from his role as Billy Ray in London's Burning after being jailed for dealing drugs in 1999.
He now lives in a shabby ex-council flat near the scene of the crash
