France set to watch London burn!
Granada International negotiates huge volume deal for hit drama series
High rating UK drama London’s Burning is to make its debut on French television following
confirmation of a massive 65 episode deal with France 3, it was announced today by Nadine Nohr,
Managing Director of Granada International.
Broadcaster France 3 is to screen the action-packed volume series following the professional and
personal lives of a group of London firefighters later this year. The programme will be dubbed
into French.
Nadine Nohr said today: ‘The time seems to be right for London’s Burning in France. France 3
needed a long-running contemporary drama series for the schedule with a good mix of action and
human interest, and we were there with a consistently top rating show to fit the bill and break
the mould of more contemporary long running British shows, traditionally selling to English
speaking markets only.
‘The themes are universal and the strength of the drama will carry it through in the French
version just as well as in English. The choice of title should be interesting!’
London’s Burning has been a massive hit on UK television for more than 14 years, thanks to
its winning formula of nail-biting drama, incredible stunts and firefighting action combined
with the personal stories of these everyday heroes.
The deal was brokered by Tim Mutimer, VP Sales for France, Italy and Spain. Granada
International’s recent major deals to France include the sale of the acclaimed new adaptation
of Boris Pasternak’s Doctor Zhivago to France 2 (due to transmit this autumn), Living With
Michael Jackson to M6 and a package of Agatha Christie’s Poirot and Sherlock Holmes titles
to TMC.
London’s Burning has previously sold to the USA, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East,
Holland, Belgium, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe and Africa.
