There are six fresh faces joining London's Burning - and some of them are set to ignight passion among the ranks. But there's also sadness when one much - loved character dies.
The eight - part series begins dramatically with new Station Office Mick Callaghan (Anthony Green) and firefighter Frank Mooney (Tristan Gemmill) being awarded the Queen's Gallantry Medal after diving into the Thames to save two passengers whose car went into the water.
Elsewhere, Recall (Ben Onwukwe) is looking forward to starting a new life. He's about to get married and move to the countryside to run a pub. But he's not in good health - and he hasn't told anyone.
The morning after his heavy stag do, Recall lags behind in a practice drill. He finds it hard to catch his breath and eventually collapses.
Sally (Heather Peace) raises concern about his health to Mick, who promises to talk to Recall about the situation.
Recall then has a change of heart and tells Mick he wants to withdraw his retirement request. Mick agrees- on the condition that he gets himself checked out by a doctor.
Later, at a house fire, Recall performs a daring rescue. But the effort proves too much and he collapses and dies.
Ben Onwukwe, who has played Recall for 10 years says, 'It did feel very odd filming my own death scene. Having got to know Recall over the past 10 years, it felt really peculiar during the whole build - up to his demise.
'Unlike Recall, I feel in great shape. Of course I was sad to be leaving, but I am really looking forward to the new challenges ahead of me.'
